Polo Lounge MV Marco Polo is expected to arrive at Half Moon Island on the South Shetlands at approximately 6:30 a.m. This small, crescent-shaped island lies on the east side of Livingston Island, and is home to a thriving colony of feisty chinstrap penguins. There are also some nesting kelp gulls and Antarctic terns. There is a small, summer-only Argentine scientific station on the island, named Teniente Camara after an Argentine naval officer who lost his life nearby. The station is located too far away from the landing site to enable a visit, and it is not always occupied. Disembarkation, by Zodiac, will start at approximately 7:00 a.m. We shall be disembarking by colour group. Soon after our departure Marco Polo will leave the protected waters (gulp) of the South Shetlands and enter Drake Passage en route to Ushuaia, Argentina.
