Grooming and gossip

Many people notice the contrast in my photos between clean penguins (above) and dirty penguins. When they've just come out of the water, their bellies appear as white as the miles of packed snow. But after a few days on land, penguins get smeared by mud and splashed with flying penguin poop. That's what they get for living in the city, I guess.

Another question I hear frequently is "Is that fur?" No, people, it's not. Penguins have feathers. They're birds, remember?
